Zhouzhuang

Close to Shanghai there are a few canal towns along spread out on the
Yangtze river delta. My girlfriend and I went to have a look at the most
famous one, which was indeed a nice experience. However we were happy to be
there off season on a little gray day. I’m convinced there were as many
tourist shops as there were tourists, meaning quite a lot after all.

Little Venice

Well, first of all it is smaller than Venice, but most pleasantly a whole
lot cheaper, despite the hordes of businessmen wanting to make an extra buck
on foreigners.

Pig knuckle

- A specialty in these parts. A rather fat experience, but anything
unhealthy tastes good or what?

Doing Oslo

From new years until the return to China the mission was to see Oslo. Like any other Asian tourist we were running frenetically around taking pictures. Here’s the castle.

Oslo Pass

A two day ticket to all of Oslo’s museums and public transport allowed us to enter just about anywhere. Here at the Fram museum. Naval museums were of special interest for Kim because he’s from the inland in Korea (Seoul).

Asian home-dinner in Oslo

370465055.jpg
Poor students did not have a lot to offer my nice brother hosting us, but at
least we decided to make a very special dinner with Korean food, bringing a
number of ingredients from Korea (that we later discovered that could have
been purchased from Koreabutikken - Storgata 53a). We also invited was a
few Norwegian friends with relation to China / or with a special interest in
spicy food!

Oslo Peace center

In year 2000 Kim Dae-jung won the Nobel peace price for his attempts of bringing south and north Korea a little closer after decades of hatred. He implemented the so called “sunshine policy” opening for dialogues and peace talk.

Akershus fortress

370383042.jpg
The maybe most interesting tour we made was the one inside Akershus fortress, who have guided tours only once a week, which happened to be just as we passed by. Up through the ages it has served as King’s residency/ castle, fortress, and now primarily serves as the government’s site for official reception banquets (in this room).

New Years party

370381782.jpg
I heard about this guy that fed a whole village with only a couple of fish, to try to copy his success we decided to serve a 7 kilo “exploded” turkey to satisfy all the 20 or so guests at my brother’s party. And despite some initial doubt it was actually more than enough.
